Dear Parents
Term 2 Controlled Tests and Exams:
Our Grade 4 to 7 assessments begin next week Monday, 20 May 2024. Please ensure that all children have a study timetable and ample time is set aside for some serious learning of notes, skills and concepts. The half year exams and controlled tests is an important time and focus must be given to academic progress. Grade 6 and 7 learners must remember that this exam would help with high school applications.
Foundation Phase assessments are on a continuous basis. Please refer to the Programme of Assessment that was sent out within the first week of Term 2.
Grade 7 High School Applications:
All Grade 7 parents should have applied at several high schools by now as there are quite a few learners who have already attended high school interviews. Please do not leave application follow-ups until it is too late. We have been mentioning high school applications and orientation marketing evenings since the beginning of the year.
Free Milo Road Show:
Off Limits Communication, a promotion company will be at school on Wednesday, 15 May 2024 to hand out free Milo and do an activity with our learners. If you do not wish for your child to receive free milo, please let us know via written communication.
Grade 7 Market Day on Friday, 17 May 2024:
Grade 2 Excursion:
The Grade 2 learners went on their much-awaited excursion to The Tin Shed. It was a fun and challenging morning. Learners had to solve various puzzles and navigate their way through a tricky obstacle course that tested their balance and planning skills. The joy on their faces when they realised what they were capable of was truly rewarding to see.

Girls soccer:
Morningside Primary hosted Gordon Road Girls on Friday, 3 May 2024. Our superstar Under 11 and Under 12 girls revelled in a resounding win in both their divisions. In a shocking turn of events where GRGS were dominating possession, Morningside Primary U11’s pulled off a 2-0 win with Aarya Hurbans scoring both the goals. Joyfully, our Under 12 girls marched on to a defining 3-0 win. Morningside Primary Girls U10 soccer team fell to Gordon Road Girls School (GRGS) in a hard-fought match, losing 2-0. Despite dominating possession and creating numerous scoring chances, Morningside's young team struggled to find the back of the net, ultimately succumbing to a better finishing Gordon Road team. Girls soccer has come a long way, promising a great future. We look forward to the Annual Girls Tournament later this month.

U13 DPS Tournament:
The Morningside Primary U13 boys' soccer team put in a commendable performance at the Durban Primary Tournament, finishing third in their pool. The team showed great determination and skill throughout the competition, earning valuable experience and pride. The boys got off to a fantastic start, defeating Glenmore 1-0 and Manor Gardens 2-0 in their opening matches. These convincing wins showcased the team's attacking prowess and solid defensive organisation. However, they faced stiff challenges in their next two matches against Montclair and eventual tournament winners DPS. Despite their best efforts, the boys suffered 2-0 and 1-0 losses, respectively, to these strong opponents. The team can hold their heads high, knowing they gave their all and made their school proud. Congratulations to the Morningside Primary U13 boys' soccer team!

Morningside Primary Under 8 and Under 10 Tournament:
Morningside Primary hosted 11 schools with 20 teams participating in an Under 8 and Under 10 Soccer Tournament. The field was abuzz with budding stars from all over Central Durban. Morningside Primary's young soccer stars made their mark at the U8 and U10 Tournament, with both teams showcasing impressive skills and determination.
The U10 team dominated their pool, remaining undefeated and securing first place. This set them up for a thrilling 1st place playoff against Glenmore Primary. The match was a nail biter, with neither team able to find the back of the net in regular time. However,
Aphelele, the outstanding goalkeeper, emerged as the hero in the penalty shootout, making crucial saves to secure Morningside Primary's victory! Congratulations to the team, Alunamda(C), Caedyn, Kudakwashe, Aphelele, Bayanda and eight-year-old Tawana challenging ten-year old children from other schools.
The U8 team put up a valiant effort, finishing second in their pool after only suffering a single defeat. They bounced back strongly in the 2nd place playoff, claiming their well deserved silver medals. A special mention goes to Kuhle from Grade 3, the only girl on the team and in the Under 8 division who showed remarkable talent and enthusiasm throughout the tournament.
Thank you to the incredible Morningside staff who rallied together to put up yet another successful interschool event.

Under 12 Tournament:
At the annual Clarence Primary Under 12 soccer tournament, our boys performed amazingly well. After losing their opening game against Clarence 2-1, the boys bounced back with two impressive wins against Addington Primary and St. Anthony's respectively and progressed to the semi-finals, but unfortunately lost 2-1 in a tight game against Glenmore Primary. The boys can hold their heads up high and be proud of themselves.

Under 12 Team Unbeaten in League matches:
On Wednesday, 08 May 2024, the U/12A soccer team was back in action and this time there was a taste for retribution as we came up against Glenmore Primary school. The boys were eager to return the favour of their semi-final defeat just four days earlier. The first half, which was a tight cagey affair ended 1-1. The second half was a different story with Morningside dominant in all areas of the pitch and controlling the game and ending up comfortable 4-1 winners. Well done boys, keep the passion and the hunger and anything is possible.

Netball:
Our netball girls have improved considerably but have not been able to win against the prominent netball schools such as Durban Girls College and Penzance. We look forward to seeing a much more balanced challenge against Clarence Primary this week. We commend our netball girls for their perseverance.
