Dear Parents
National Elections:
School will be closed on Wednesday, 29 May 2024. This has been declared as a public holiday due to our national and provincial elections which is held every five years. Your vote makes a difference, ensure that you exercise your democratic right on Wednesday. We will see our learners once again on Thursday.
School is open on Monday and Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Learners will be starting Term 3 work after the Term 2 Controlled Tests and Term 2 Exams. Please ensure that they do not stay away from school.
Fun Day 2024:
The kids requested that we have a Fun Day this year instead of our Food Fair and that more rides are added to our event. Learners will therefore purchase a R100 ticket and have unlimited rides for the day. There may be lines at the ten rides hired. We have arranged for a few food stalls, such as a boerewors stand, burger stall, cooldrinks, ice-creams and a tea garden. We have limited space for food stalls as the inflatable rides will take up a lot of space. You may choose to bring through a picnic basket as your preferred refreshment / meal. If there are any parents who will be able to volunteer any extra stalls as fundraising for the school, you may contact me on email… principal@morningsideps.co.za Parking is usually a problem, due to the field not being available. Getting dropped off or catching an uber or lift may be a better option.
Congratulations Mr Veress:
What an absolute blessing!
Congratulations to the Veress family on the arrival of their beautiful twin girls!
Horizon Maths Competition:
Congratulations to Moosa Seedat on achieving 41st position in the Horizon Maths competition in which 12000 learners across KZN participated. We are very proud of you!
Badminton Report:
On Wednesday, 22 May 2024 our school hall was buzzing with badminton players, coaches and parents since both the Badminton A and B teams played home matches. The Badminton A team versed the Hillcrest B team. The competition was tough and both schools had won 4 games each before the last doubles match could be played. Our players fought hard in the doubles match, right until the end. However, we lost 4 – 5 to Hillcrest. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the high standard of rallying from both teams and I am very proud of our MPS badminton players.
The Badminton B team played Sherwood Primary. Our players put their hearts into the game and played exceptionally well. I must commend the B team players on their remarkable improvement in their standard of playing. They fought back throughout the match. However, we lost 4-5 to Sherwood. I am really proud of MPS B team players for their efforts.
Thank you to the parents who attended these entertaining badminton matches. Your support is hugely appreciated!
Badminton South Africa hosted a Triple Header Open Championship Tournament in Durban for U15/U17/U19 players on 17-19 May 2024. Yandiswa Ngcobo participated in this tournament.
Yandiswa, who is only 13 years old, played the U15 singles, doubles and mixed doubles and and the U17 doubles. She and her partner won the U15 doubles consolation finals. Yandiswa also got as far as the consolation semi-finals for the U15 mixed doubles and U17 doubles. This young lady also represented the KZN team in Bloemfontein in March 2024 and reached the consolation doubles finals. Congratulations to this young badminton star!

Netball:
U10/11 Netball Girls Shine at Holy Family Tournament…
Our U10/11 netball girls have showcased their skill and determination across three thrilling matches recently. The u10’s kicked off with a fantastic victory against Clarence, demonstrating their strong teamwork and strategic play. The momentum, however, shifted for u10’s and u11’s in their second match against Manor Gardens, where they faced a tough opponent and unfortunately lost. Despite this setback, the girls remained resilient and focused. Their hard work paid off spectacularly in the Holy Family tournament that happened on Saturday, where they delivered an extraordinary performance, winning 14-2.
The match was a masterclass in precision and energy, with Azande Mbonwa leading the charge and earning the well-deserved title of Player of the Tournament. The team's synergy and unwavering spirit were evident, making this victory a highlight of their season. Thank you to Mrs Joshua for her continued support at all our netball games.

Each game has been a testament to their dedication and love for the sport, and they continue to improve and grow with every match. Their tenacity and positive attitude set a great example, reminding us all that true victory lies in the spirit of competition and the perseverance to keep pushing forward. Well done to all our netball girls for their outstanding efforts and inspiring sportsmanship! Keep up the great work, and let's look forward to more exciting matches ahead.

Girls Soccer:
Vince Lombardi once said, “An individual commitment to a group effort- that is what makes a team work.”
This was evident in Clarence Primary School’s Girls’ Tournament, where our little roses rose to the challenge wearing their Morningside colours with pride. It was not an easy task, but our girls played their hearts out securing two 0-0 draws against Glenmore Primary and Durban Primary and one 2-0 loss to Yellowwood Park, which unfortunately led to their elimination due to goal difference. Thank you to all the parents involved for supporting the growth of girls’ sport at Morningside.
