Dear Parents

Fun Day 2024:

When speaking to our little ones, I could see that they were bursting with excitement.  What an exhilarating time of pure joy! Thank you to parents who brought through their  kids for a day of “Fun.” After looking at Saturday, the 8th of June’s weather and  temperatures, I’m very glad we had brought our Fun Day to a week earlier. Thank you to Mrs Ahmed who spearheaded the wonderful Fun Day and to our amazing staff  who worked so hard to make the day a success.

Badminton Report:

On 5 June 2024, the Badminton A team played away at Highbury. We played two matches  and lost 7-2 in the first match and 6-3 in the second. The Badminton B team also played  two matches away at St. Mary's. Congratulations to the B team for winning both their  matches, 8-1 in the first match and 6-3 in the second match. Thank you to Mrs Dlamini and  Mr Barath for coaching and supporting the badminton players. A huge thank you to Mr  Singh for transporting the A and B teams on 5 June 2024.

No Extra Mural:

There will be No Extra Mural Activities this week. As customary, there is No Extra Mural  in the first and last week of the school term. Please make suitable transport arrangements.

Term 2 Reports:

Term 2 reports will be handed out on Thursday, 13 June 2024. Please note that all reports  are sent home in a sealed envelope and should not show signs of being open or tampered  with.

Unfortunately, the reports display a small error that is received from SASAMS  (Department of Education) in which Term and the number 2 has no space in between them.  We do not have the rights to access the area in order to change the heading by putting in a  space.

All reports are generated by the SASAMS computer system.

Civvies:

Learners will be allowed to wear Civvies on Thursday, 13 June 2024. This is at a cost of R10  each. Please make use of the Karri App for payment.

Thank you:

We often want to speak about the negatives in society. However, unbeknown to me, there  are a few parents who go out of their way to help those learners in our school who do not  have as much as others do. There is a particular parent who quietly packs lunch for another  learner with exactly all the treats that her son receives. There is another parent who has  purchased a hat for an indigent learner because the learner cannot afford to buy a hat.  There are many other deeds of kindness that I may not know about… You surely know the  meaning of charity begins at home. Your humility in not letting people know of the good that  you do for our learners is greatly appreciated. There are also educators at our school who, out of their own pockets, help children by paying for them to go on an excursion. May God  bless you for your incredible love and care.

Merit Cup Winner

We congratulate Athlone HOUSE who have emerged as winners of the Term 2 trophy. Merit Cup winners may leave school at 11.40 a.m. on Wednesday, the 12th of June 2024.

• Indemnity forms will be sent home for all ATHLONE HOUSE parents to sign.  • No Athlone House learner is allowed to go to the gate at 11.40 a.m. without a signed  indemnity form. Indemnity forms must be sent back on Tuesday morning.  • If you are unable to pick up your child early for the Athlone House reward, we will  gladly keep your child at school with the 75% of children that will be staying back to  continue until the normal home-time.

• If a Athlone House learner (who has an indemnity formed signed) is not picked up by  11.55a.m., the learner will be brought back from the gate and sent to class. Buxton, Clarendon and Duncan House learners are not allowed to take early leave on  Wednesday, the 12th of June 2024.

Grade 2 Parents’ Day

Our recent Grade 2 Parents Day was fantastic! The children wowed everyone with songs, a  poem, as well as some jokes and gentle reminders on the joys of parenting. The  performances showcased their talents and hard work, impressing all the parents. The event  boosted their confidence and was a joyful experience for everyone.

No Aftercare on the Last Day of Term

There will be “No Aftercare” on Friday, 14 June 2024. This has always been the policy at  the Morningside Aftercare, in the last decade especially. Please refer to the Aftercare  policy posted last year.

Early Closure on Friday, 14 June 2024

School will close at 10.30 a.m. on Friday, 14 June 2024. If parents are unable to fetch  learners at 10.30 a.m. on Friday, we suggest that learners do not come to school at all.

Those learners who are absent on Friday, 14 June 2024 will not be counted as absent when  it comes to them aiming for their “Full Attendance” record.

Unfortunately, many transport providers are unable to fetch learners at 10.30 a.m. and  educators have had to wait with children who have not been fetched for many hours on the  last day of the term. We therefore, ask that parents consider not sending those learners  who experience transport challenges to school on the last day of the term. Due to the high volume of learners absent on the last day of term, no significant work will  be covered on Friday.

The staff usually use the last day of term for our strategic planning / grade and subject  planning as well as for Term 3’s calendar and the planning and finalising of the Extra curricular timetable.

Grade 2 and 3 Night Tournament Report:

Morningside Primary's Grade 2 and 3 teams participated in the Night Tournament at  Glenmore, showcasing their skills and determination.

Grade 2:

- Drew most of their games, displaying consistency and teamwork.

- Lost a closely contested match against hosts Glenmore.

Grade 3:

- Won a thrilling match against Manor Gardens.

- Drew two matches, demonstrating their resilience.

- Lost a hard-fought game against Glenwood Prep.

Both teams played extremely well, showcasing their talent and dedication to the sport.  Their sportsmanship and teamwork were evident throughout the tournament. Great job,  MPS!

Netball Report:

Tuesday 4 June marked the end of our Netball season with a thrilling set of matches  against the purple and green netball team from Glenmore. The U11s fought hard to secure a

draw, while the U13s clinched a victorious 9-8 win. It was a nail-biting match. We are proud  of all our young ladies and look forward to the next season in 2025.
