With twenty-one plants that have been purchased for our twenty-one classes, each class will be given an opportunity to plant and take care of their specially chosen plant. Northdene Under 13 Soccer Tournament: The Red Redemption
Saturday, 31 August was not a bad morning out for our soccer boys, who travelled up the hill for the second time since last year’s Northdene Preparatory School’s annual 5-a-aside tournament. The u13 team strolled through their group, winning four matches and losing one to finish second in Group A. The semi-final against the winners of Group B – Pinetown Senior Primary was a truly unlucky game for our boys, who dominated the game and had the better chances. Unfortunately, our boys conceded 2 in what was a semi-final match of dazzling quality. The one match our boys lost in the group stage was to Westville Senior Primary, who we managed to meet again in the third-place play-offs. The boys were relentless in their pursuit to leave with some degree of glory and made easy work of a worthy opponent, winning 3-0. Overall it was a beautiful Saturday morning, with the school represented firmly on the winners’ podium in both divisions.

Grade 3 Grandparents Day:
A beautiful morning of blessings. Our Grade 3 educators blessed the hearts of their learners’ grandparents with well-rehearsed items of dances and proses, choirs of their greatest treasure rendering the most incredible songs. The immense boughs of gratitude expressed by our senior citizens overwhelmed my heart. One particular grandmother travelled in a bus overnight from Bloemfontein just to spend the morning with her grandson because she didn’t want him disappointed by him not having anyone there.
Hockey Report:
Last week Tuesday, our u11 and u13 hockey girls played their first match. Congratulations to our u13 girls’ team on their thrilling 2-1 victory against St James Primary School. Our u11 girls
fell just short with a final score of 1-2. Both teams showcased impressive skills and teamwork throughout the match.

Debate League:
The debate teams have had an impressive run in their recent matches at Our Lady of Fatima. They showcased their skill, dedication, and teamwork. Our debaters have engaged in a series of thought-provoking topics, demonstrating not only their command of rhetoric but also their ability to think critically and argue persuasively under pressure.
We want to congratulate Dominic Natasadu, Zaheer Sheik and Avaran Govender on receiving Best Speaker of the House.
The debate team is now preparing for their last match. With their recent successes and continued dedication, they are poised to represent our school with pride and aim for further victories.
Morningside won both their debate matches on their last visit to Our Lady of Fatima. Well done to our hardworking debaters.

Badminton:
On the 9th, 10th and 11th of August 2024, five teams represented Morningside Primary in the KZN Badminton Regional Primary School and Individual Championships. Each team comprised of four players. The teams were seeded according to strength and drawn into a Section A and Section B. There were 6 schools that participated from the Durban and surrounding areas. Each team had to play a singles match as well as a doubles match. It was a round-robin tournament which started at 8am on each of the three days and finished at about 5.30 p.m. Each Morningside team was assigned a coach who was an U17 KZN Badminton player. The coaches mentored, supported and advised our players throughout the tournament. I was very grateful to see our Morningside parents at the Badminton Hall, cheering and supporting our children on all three days. I am so glad that our children had the opportunity to play top-level badminton. It was a learning experience for our children and certainly a motivational one! Our children played tirelessly on all three days and had lots of fun. Each team had to do a war cry when they were introduced each day.
Congratulations to Isaac and Daniel Famezoo who played exceptionally well in the tournament and made it through to the consolation final of the Individual Doubles Championship. The Awards Ceremony was on Sunday 11 August.
Results were as follows…
Morningside Team A was placed 4th amongst 7 schools in the “A Section” league. Morningside Team B, C, D and E were placed 3rd, 5th, 6th and 7th respectively in the “B Section” league.
