Red Arrow 25 - 25 November

Writer: Naren BoodhooNaren Boodhoo

Dear Parents

Registration for 2025 and School Fee Commitment Forms:

Today, 25 November 2024 was the last day for all Commitment Forms to be sent back. If you  have not, please make an appointment to see me.

Christmas Carol Evening:

The last 3 years have been rained out either before we even start or whilst we are in the  middle of the carol evening… last year was especially dangerous as there was lightning with our  children on the field. After much practice over several weeks, the children do not get to do  their parts as we have to run for cover and cancel the evening due to rain. We have therefore, decided to have our Christmas Carol Evening in the school hall on the 9th of  December 2024. In order to control the entry, we will be selling tickets at R20 each. Those who  purchase tickets will be allocated a seat according to when the tickets are purchased. There will  be a seating system according to who purchases tickets first.

“First come, first serve”

Tickets are available on the Karri App.

Waltons Stationery Collections:

Parents who have ordered stationery may collect on the following days…

Thursday, 28 November 2024 @ 11.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m.

There is also a Black Friday Special where Waltons have adjusted prices on the Karri App.

Textbooks and Badges:

All textbooks, readers and library books should have been returned by now. Please return all  Merit, Academics, Progress and Diligence badges as well.

Grade 6 Learners show Gratitude at St. James's Church:

Nine Grade 6 Learners visited St. James's Church to express their thanks for the generous  donations of sandwiches to less fortunate learners at Morningside Primary School. As a token of  appreciation, the learners dedicated their Wednesday morning to planting flowers in the  church's Garden of Remembrance. The outing was focused on giving back as the learners spent  time de-weeding and redesigning the entrance, aiming to give it a refreshed and welcoming look.  The group was composed of Olwethu, Bhavik, Buhle, Avaran, Elsie, Sphe, Bianca, Tia and Reegan.  Their hard work and dedication reflected their deep gratitude for the senior citizens ongoing  support to the school and its learners.

Report by Mrs J. Bremmer

Reading Mums/Dads and Senior Citizens Morning:

Our beautiful Grade 1 learners and educators showcased a delightful performance for the Reading Mums/ Dads who help on a weekly basis with reading in Grade 1. We also invited senior  citizens from the Bill Buchanan Home and the Thembela Salvation Army Old Age Home in which  they were treated to a midmorning tea.

Former Principal, Mrs Marlene Tunguy Desmarais:

Mrs Desmarais was an educator at Morningside from 1978 to 2009, a total of 31 years. She spent  9 of those years as principal of our school (2001 – 2009). We honoured her with a special assembly  on Friday, 22 November 2024. Her family attended the ceremony as we reminisced on the impact

of her career here at Morningside. Her daughter planted into 2 special pots in remembrance of  her, one being of her favourite colour and one being the colour of her sport house, Buxton. Thank  you to all the children of our school and especially the choir who made the service a fitting one  for Mrs Desmarais and the legend she is.

Learners who will not be attending Morningside in 2025:

This year’s Grade 1 to 6 learners who will not be attending Morningside in 2025, must let Mrs  Craig and I know by 18 November 2024. Please email both mcraig@morningsideps.co.za and  principal@morningsideps.co.za

Please note… The above is not necessary for Grade 7 learners.

Christmas Hampers for our General Assistants:

This is a gesture of appreciation for all the hard work in keeping our school clean and  hygienically secure. Our caretakers are instrumental in cleaning up after our children especially,  when they are unwell and have accidents. They are kind to our babies making sure that the  toilets and premises are sanitary and that the school is kept beautiful. Please donate on Karri  App. as a “Thank you!” to our wonderful GA’s.

End of Year Outreach:

Please refer to the detailed letter attached at the end of the Red Arrow. It explains the  incredible difference you can make in the lives of the less fortunate.
